BACKGROUND
The project started when…
I was asked to design the website for the Podcast “Mixtape Hope”. Mixtape Hope is a music and healing focused podcast located in New Orleans, LA. They were just out of their fourth season as a podcast when they asked me to build a website for them. The main feature to a website was to be a place that people could learn more about them and listen to past episodes. Founders and partners Luis and Andrea Espinoza were pretty open to design ideas but the main things were to feature the existing logo and Luis wanted a “retro and oldschool” look while Andrea wanted a “clean and simple” look. My biggest design challenge was making these choices fit perfectly together in a way that made sense.
DESIGN TEMPLATE
There was an existing Design Template that I worked from for this project. There were two existing logos which I used as the basis for design. The color palette for the logos included two different shades of purple and orange with a font in red. I loved the idea of the purple and orange complimentary colors and wanted to lean in to this for the design basis. The red would act as an accent color and their was no existing font that they wanted me to go with so I ended up choosing the fonts “Arcane Hand” to represent to more fun retro side and “Allrounder” to give the clean and professional aesthetic. I chose a more muted orange and beige variation to be the basis of the background to really make the bright colors become more accented. The final design utilized a more muted looked with moments of brightness and lots of pictures.
PAPER+DIGITAL WIREFRAMES
To get a perfect understanding of how I wanted the website to be, I decided to create a mockup in FIGMA. I started with paper wireframes and sketches to get me a general understanding of how I wanted the tabs and pages to be laid out. I wanted to go with simple rather than too many tabs. The main goal was to get people to listen. I then created digital wireframes to begin a low-fidelity prototype.
